The Social Justice Panel will hold its annual celebration on International Women’s Day, March 7, from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. in Haley 3203, with refreshments to follow.
Sponsored by Women’s Studies and the College of Liberal Arts, this year’s title is “From Ivory Tower to Social Action.”  The panelists will highlight how women faculty turn their research and other kinds of work for the university into programs, performances, and beneficial actions that contribute to social justice.  Chaired by Paula Backscheider, Philpott-Stevens Eminent Scholar in English, the panel will begin with Professor Mitchell Brown, Ph.D. Program Director, Department of Political Science, College of Liberal Arts, setting the stage with “The Meaning of Social Justice and Its Role in Academe.”
The panelists are:
Professor Marilyn Strutchen, Leischuck Endowed Professor and Fraley Distinguished Professor, College of Education, “Empowering Students Through Equitable Teaching Practices,”
Professor Karen Rogers, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, College of Architecture, Design and Construction, “Create, Design, Build: Making Lives Better.”
Professor Daydrie Hague, Department of Theatre, College of Liberal Arts, “Empowering Women to Act”
Free and Open to the Public.
