Join us this semester for a new opportunity to get a focused look at a single piece of art.   Students in Emily Burns’ class, Art of the United States, an upper-level art history course, will address single works of art in its context. Art history majors and minors as well as studio arts students will present a brief introduction to the artist and context of the work, including a discussion of the stylistic details of the object. Subjects for the talks will be drawn from both temporary exhibitions on view next semester, as well as pieces from the permanent collection that will be brought out especially for the presentations.

"A Little Art Talk" presentations will last about 15 minutes, leaving ample time to drop by the café for lunch. Attendees will get free iced tea or coffee when they dine in the café.

Emily Burns joined the Department of Art’s faculty in the fall of 2012. She holds a PhD in Art History and Archaeology from Washington University in St. Louis. In her research, she considers Franco-American artistic and cultural exchange in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
