AU Outreach is partnering with the Tuskegee Auburn Women's Leadership Alliance to present scholarship related to engagement, the community, and voices from the margins. Concurrent sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, and Wednesday, Feb. 17.
The keynote event of this symposium will be the Extraordinary Women Lecture featuring Dr. Mae Jemison on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m.  Dr. Jemison is an astronaut and a Decatur, Alabama native. When Dr. Jemison flew into space on September 12, 1992, with six other astronauts aboard the Endeavour on mission STS47, she became the first African-American woman in space. During her eight days in space, she conducted experiments on weightlessness and motion sickness on the crew and herself. In all, she spent more than 190 hours in space before returning to Earth on September 20, 1992.

Kicking off the alliance symposium, there will be an opening reception on Monday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. in the Terrace Room at the AU Hotel and Conference Center.

A presidential panel will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 2 – 3 p.m., followed by a question and answer session called Conversations with the Presidents from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Terrace Room at the AU Hotel and Conference Center.
