Lecture title: "Communication and Community Building"
How can students use the tools of civic journalism to both document their own experience of community while creating stories that matter?  Through civic projects in classes such as feature writing and community journalism and in the College of Liberal Arts’ Living Democracy program, students are capturing stories of people, places, and progress in rural Alabama communities. Based on the rich traditions of community journalism, students discover the vital role communication plays in building and enriching communities as they grow as journalists. The presentation will focus on the value of powerful story-telling in civic engagement.
Bring your lunch and join us. Drinks and light dessert will be provided. This program is open to all university students, faculty, and staff. Seating is limited.
