Join us for a screening and discussion of Tutwiler, a documentary short by The Marshall Project and FRONTLINE PBS on what it is like to be an expectant mother in Alabama’s Julia Tutwiler Prison, and the doula program trying to help these women prepare for birth. The film will be followed by a discussion about issues faced by incarcerated pregnant women and what happens to their newborns. The panel discussion will be moderated by Joan Harrell, a lecturer and Diversity Coordinator in the School of Communication and Journalism, Auburn University. Other panelists will include reporter and producer Alysia Santo and filmmaker Elaine McMillion Sheldon; Ashley Lovell, program director of the Alabama Prison Birth Project and Wendy Williams, deputy commissioner, Alabama Department of Corrections.
