The Academy for Writing, offered by the Office of University Writing, is a new program devoted to the effective use of writing in disciplinary courses. This Academy will focus on teaching with writing: the notion that writing assignments can be a vehicle for disciplinary teaching and learning. Participants will learn strategies for designing, scaffolding, and evaluating a writing assignment, ultimately producing assignment prompts relevant to disciplinary content, writing activities or materials that scaffold learning in support of major assignments, peer review protocols, and assignment rubrics. Participation in the Academy is limited to 24 participants who have completed the Biggio Center’s Course (Re)Design Seminar, or plan to complete it in summer of 2019. The Academy will take place on July 15, 17, 19, and 22 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Click here to view the full call for applications, which provides more details on the Academy, the application process, compensation, and requirements. Applications are accepted now through Mar. 1, 2019. Click here to apply.
