On Tuesday, February 12th at 3:00 PM in 2550 Mell Classroom Building, the Center for Health Ecology and Equity Research (CHEER) will host Dr. Kari White as part of the CHEER Spring 2019 Seminar Series. Kari White is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Care Organization and Policy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology with a specialization in Demography from the University of Texas at Austin, an MPH from Tulane University and MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Arizona. Her research focuses on evaluating the interrelationship between people’s reproductive health behaviors and outcomes and the health services and policies that shape their access to care, with a focus on low-income and immigrant populations. Her recent projects include a collaborative evaluation of legislation affecting family planning funding and abortion restrictions in Texas, assessing factors influencing vasectomy use, and examining women’s access to contraception and abortion in the Southeast. Dr. White will present her research on the interrelationship between US immigration and health policies and the implications this has for immigrants' access to care.
