The public is invited to “Meeting the Ancestors through African American Cemetery Preservation” on Friday, November 9 from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities at Pebble Hill.


The seminar will feature “Finding African American Fraternal Orders in Southern Cemeteries,” a keynote by Tamela Tenpenny-Lewis.


Tamela Tenpenny-Lewis is co-founder and president of Preservation of African American Cemeteries, Inc. (PAAC). She has served as the national president of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) and was also a charter member of the Arkansas chapter of AAHGS. Currently, Tenpenny-Lewis serves as a board member of the Friends of the Arkansas State Archives.
