Bill Hutto

Director, Auburn University Aviation Center & Airport

Bill Hutto is the airport director for the Auburn University Regional Airport, a role he has held since Aug. 1, 2001.  At the airport, he is responsible for its overall management, including marketing, public relations, planning, budget preparation/management, consultant management, construction and personnel issues. In addition, he is responsible for operation of the fixed base operation that provides all aircraft and pilot services.

Effective July 1, 2014, he also became the director of the newly formed Auburn University Aviation Center.  The overall goals of the Aviation Center are to foster statewide economic development, strengthen the University’s aviation programs, enhance the student experience and offer aviation-oriented outreach opportunities.  Too, he is the acting chair of the Department of Aviation in the College of Liberal Arts where he also teaches Airport Management.

He is involved in civic and volunteer activities at the local, state and national levels.  Hutto currently serves on the Auburn City Board of Education, he is a past president of the Auburn Rotary Club, he is a past chairman of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce and he is an active member of Lakeview Baptist Church.  He is also an Eagle Scout and a former assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 29 in Auburn. At the state level, he serves on the Alabama Homeland Security Task Force and the Alabama Space Authority. He is a past president of the Aviation Council of Alabama.  Nationally, he serves on the Board of Trustees of the Aviation Accreditation Board International, which is the international accrediting organization for collegiate aviation programs; and he is serving as the chair of the Aviation Committee of the Aerospace States Association.

Prior to joining the team at Auburn, he spent more than 10 years in Titusville, Florida, working for the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority. The last seven and one half years he served as the executive director for the Authority, which owns and operates three airports on Florida’s Space Coast.

He is a native of Eufaula and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management from Auburn University.  Since then, he has earned his Ph.D. in Public Administration and Public Policy from Auburn University as well as his Master of Business Administration in Aviation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, and his Associate of Science in Environmental Engineering Technology from Seminole Community College in Sanford, Florida.  He is also an Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.).

Hutto resides in Auburn with his wife, Holly.  They have four children: Matthew (Cynthia), 26; Savannah, 22; Margaret, 19; and Jadon, 7.
