4:00 PM–5:30 PM Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities at Pebble Hill Free and Open to the Public The public is invited to a book signing and discussion on Alabama: The History of a Deep South State, Bicentennial Edition, with Wayne Flynt and Leah Rawls
Atkins.
Alabama: The History of a Deep South State, Bicentennial Edition is a comprehensive narrative account of the state from its earliest days to the present. Originally
published in 1994, the book was nominated for Pulitzer Prize and received the James F. Sulzby Book Award from the Alabama Historical Association. This edition, updated to celebrate the state’s bicentennial, offers a detailed survey of the colorful, dramatic,
and often controversial turns in Alabama’s evolution.
Dr. Wayne Flynt, Professor Emeritus in the Department of History at Auburn University, is the author of thirteen books, and one of the most recognized and honored
scholars of Southern history, politics, and religion. His latest book is Mockingbird Songs: My Friendship with Harper Lee.
Dr. Leah Rawls Atkins is a historian and the founding director of the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities. She is the author or co-author
of more than a dozen books on Alabama history, including a study of the admission of women to Auburn University, a history of Birmingham and Jefferson County, and a history of the Alabama Power Company.
The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Bert Hitchcock, Professor Emeritus in the Department of English at Auburn University.
The event is free, open to the public, and will be followed by refreshments. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
