March 29, 2018
Time: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Location: Pebble Hill

Diana Iaromich, St. Petersburg native and Fulbright Fellow teaching Russian at Valdosta State University in Georgia, will discuss “Vernut’sya na yug: A Russian Linguist’s Perspective on the South” at the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities at Pebble Hill.

Iaromich earned a bachelor’s degree in Russian language and literature from St. Petersburg State University, followed by a master’s degree in language and culture studies. Intrigued by the music and culture of the American South, she wrote a master’s thesis on Southern identity and the current meaning of the word “South” and its derivatives. In her talk, she will discuss her analysis, as well as offer her own dictionary definitions.

The event is free and open to the public and will be followed by refreshments. Pebble Hill is located at 101 S. Debardeleben Street, Auburn. For more information, contact Mark Wilson at mwilson@auburn.edu.
