Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Location: Haley Center Room 1403
Description of the Event: Why do we assume that technological change — especially in the realm of information technology — is inherently progressive? Who gets to decide what counts as “progress,” and why? Using The Circle’s dystopian tale of a privacy-free, technologically-saturated culture of surveillance as a starting point, Dr. Lucsko will explore the historical relationship between technological change and social, cultural, and individual progress.
Dr. David Lucsko is an associate professor and the chair of the History Department.
