As part of The College of Sciences and Mathematics’ fourth annual Bioinformatics Bootcamp, guest speaker Nirav Merchant, director of information technology at the Arizona Research Labs at the University of Arizona, will give a talk exploring the “data deluge” affecting almost every discipline. The talk is titled, “Unleashing your inner data scientist: The ability and audacity to scale your science with free and open cyberinfrastructure.” Merchant will provide guidance and insight into leveraging available resources to manage your own “big data” challenges for asking bold research questions, as well as explore the importance of interdisciplinary collaborations, hands-on training, and technology orientation. The lecture is open to the public and will take place on Thursday, June 8, at 3 p.m. in 113A Lowder.

The Bioinformatics Bootcamp is a training workshop in genomics and computational biology for researchers interested in working with modern genomic data resources. Each year, the weeklong experience features a keynote lecture. Additional information can be found at auburn.edu/bioinformatics.
