In conjunction with the the Common Book Program, the Multicultural Center is hosting a presentation by Southern Poverty Law Center fellow Ebony Howard concerning Juvenile Injustice. Ms. Howard will discuss how many vulnerable children across the South are
being denied access to quality public education and the mental health services that they need. At the same time, thousands are being pushed out of the classroom and into the juvenile justice system because of discipline policies that punish them severely for
minor misbehaviors. Ms. Ebony Howard manages the SPLC's legal recruitment and retention programs and leads federal civil rights litigation and policy efforts aimed at reforming government systems in Alabama that harm children and other under-served populations
involved in the criminal justice system. The event will take place in the Student Center room 2222/2223 at 11:30am on Aug. 24 Light Refreshments will be served. ALL ARE WELCOME! |
