Auburn University has earned the Tree Campus USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation for the seventh consecutive year for promoting healthy trees and engaging staff and students in conservation efforts. A ceremony and campus tree planting to recognize the award is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences.
 
Auburn University President, Dr. Jay Gogue, SFWS Associate Dean of Research and Director, Center for Environmental Studies at the Urban-Rural Interface (CESURI), Dr. Graeme Lockaby, and CESURI’s Outreach Director, Michelle Cole, will welcome attendees and open the program with remarks on behalf of Auburn University.
 
Representing program sponsor, Toyota Motors Manufacturing of Alabama, Ms. Jeneen Horton, REM, CEM Environmental/Facilities Manager, and Mr. Dale Dickens, Urban Forestry Coordinator of the Alabama Forestry Commission, will formally present the award to Auburn University as Alabama’s 2015 State Tree Campus USA.
 
Following the ceremony, Auburn’s Landscape Services staff and volunteers will plant trees outside the School of Forestry and Wildlife Building beginning at 10:00 a.m.
 
A networking luncheon will be offered for attendees and Alabama urban forestry professionals to provide an opportunity to exchange valuable ideas and techniques to protect and promote urban forestry in the state.

The celebration will be held on April 5th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Auburn University’s School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences Conference Hall (Room 1101) located at 602 Duncan Drive, Auburn, Alabama. The event is free and open to the public.
