The Choctaw Civil War represents one the most important events in the history of eighteenth-century America. Although often overlooked, the conflict constitutes a moment in which the balance of power between European empires
in North America was up for grabs. Both the French and British recognized the long-standing implications depending on the outcome, and the event weighed heavily on colonial leaders who failed to recognize the Native roots of the conflict. In addition to explaining
the rationale behind the outbreak of the Choctaw Civil War, this presentation also will discuss the ways in which Choctaw internecine warfare fit into European imperial policies.
