Dr. Tim Brimmer will offer a public lecture entitled “A Neuro-Music Experience: How and Why We Listen To and Perform Music” on Thursday, October 29 from 10:00 to 11:30 am in Goodwin Recital Hall.
In his presentation on the Neuro-Music Experience, he will discuss physics, acoustics, memory development, language development and acquisition, music psychology, music pedagogy, and neurochemistry as means of understanding the neuroscience of music and its contributions to the quality of human existence. Dr. Brimmer is professor of music at Butler University, teaching choral music, digital arts and music education. As director of the Jordan College of Fine Arts Multisensory Learning Facilities he uses technologies to advance teaching and learning in the arts and interdisciplinary curricula. Tim is leading discussions on the “neuroscience of music” with other faculty at Butler, scientists from the Eli Lilly pharmaceutical company, physicians from the Indiana University Medical Center, and colleagues in Asia to synthesize components of seemingly disparate disciplines into a team-approach of applied research and applied pedagogy, intertwining the arts and sciences as they occur in the natural world. Tim also directs vocal jazz activities and is active in Butler’s Study Abroad Program, performing in South America, Central Europe and Asia. |
