Women’s Equality Day Celebration, hosted by the Auburn University Women’s Leadership Institute and League of Women Voters of East Alabama will be Wednesday, August 26 at 5:30 pm at Amsterdam Café. The event will feature Lilly Ledbetter, the woman at the center of the historic case that inspired the Lilly Ledbetter Far Pay Restoration Act. Admission will be $5 for LWVEA members and $15 for non-members. Student admission will be free, sponsored by the Women’s Leadership Institute. Light appetizers will be provided. Lilly Ledbetter fought to close the gap between women’s and men’s wages for 10 years. Although the Supreme Court ruled against her, the decision in her law suit against Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company led to the passing of the first new law of President Obama’s administration: the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
