Dr. Sylviane Diouf, an award-winning scholar and author of numerous essays, articles, scholarly monographs, and children's books on the African Diaspora, will give a lecture on Tuesday, March 17 at 7 p.m. in the Student Center, room 2222-2223, as part
of the Africana Studies program in the College of Liberal Arts. Diouf is director of the Lapidus Center for the Historical Analysis of Transatlantic Slavery and a Curator at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. She received the 2007 Wesley-Logan
Prize of the American Historical Association, and the 2009 Sulzby Award of the Alabama Historical Association. Diouf was a finalist for the 2008 Hurston/Wright Legacy Award for her book, "Dreams of Africa in Alabama: The Slave Ship Clotilda and the Story of
the Last Africans Brought to America," which is a moving account of the last slave ship to America, whose 110 captives arrived in Mobile in 1860.
