This is a public lecture delivered by Edward Ayers, President of University of Richmond and southern historian. He is the definition of an engaged scholar. He is one of the "American History Guys" on the NPR program "BackStory,"
and is the author of 4 and editor of 7 books, several of which have won important awards. He is also an enthusiastic proponent of efforts to digitize the humanities. He has won a National Humanities Medal, U.S. Professor of the Year Award, and Fellowship in
