November 13, 2014
Time: 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
Location: Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, Auburn University

The 1072 Society is composed of friends of the museum who contribute funds annually for the express purpose of acquiring new art for JCSM’s permanent collection. Each year, a selection of art is assembled and exhibited at the museum in consideration of purchase with funds generated by this group, so-named in honor of the dollar amount paid in 1948 for 36 modernist paintings to establish a university collection. That initial vision to collect significant art at Auburn is carried forward today by members of the 1072 Society.
Previous 1072 exhibitions have resulted in meaningful additions to the museum collection including paintings, prints, drawings, photographs and sculpture by Elizabeth Catlett, Willie Cole, Frederick MacMonnies, Beverly Pepper, William Wegman and many others. This year, in conjunction with the feature exhibition, Rembrandt, Rubens, Gainsborough, and the Golden Age of Painting in Europe, curators are focusing on European Old Master works.
Join museum staff, past 1072 Society members and potential new members at an engaging reception and program on Thursday, November 13 at 5 pm. The favor of a reply is appreciated by Monday, November 10 to Kate Hancock at 334.844.1675.
