October 09, 2014
Time: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Location: Jule Collins Smith Museum

Join Kwasi Asare for an evening of traditional kente cloth weaving at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. The artist will share his story of how he learned to weave. Participants will have an opportunity to weave on small looms after the demonstration.

The United Nations commissioned Asare to create a piece for the 50th anniversary of Ghana’s independence, which was fitting, as Asare’s father wove the first kente cloth from independent Ghana in 1960. Today, he continues the tradition from his weaving mill in Ghana. Asare’s warm demeanor, fascinating story, and beautiful works of art guarantee this to be a wonderful evening.
