A public screening and discussion of the student-produced documentary “Halftime Heroes: Coaching Beyond the X’s and O’s” will be held on Monday, March 3 at 6 p.m. at Pebble Hill (101 S. Debardeleben Street).

The documentary features student athletes and three coaches from Beauregard High School in Lee County and focuses on the crucial role of coaches as mentors to students on and off the playing field.  Psychology major Laney Payne began the project as part of her senior capstone course for the minor in community and civic engagement.  Charles Harper, a senior radio, television, and film major, served as videographer.  To view a trailer for the documentary, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oo4M_MS3U4E.

Payne and Harper will discuss their work on the project, and special guests from Beauregard High School will discuss the role of high school sports in a rural community.  A reception in honor of students and coaches will follow.  The event is co-sponsored by the Community and Civic Engagement Initiative and the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University.  For more information, call 334-844-6198.
