The Honors College has adopted the theme of poverty awareness this semester and its ongoing film and lecture series is called "k(NO)w poverty?" The series continues on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. in Langdon Hall with a lecture titled "From The Eyes Of The Poor" by Ms. Lisa Pierce, Founder & Director of Alabama Rural Ministry. Upcoming events include: Dale Quinney, executive director of the Alabama Rural Health Association, Feb. 10, 3 p.m.; and the film, "A Place at The Table," Feb. 26, 6 p.m. All events are open to the public. Nonperishable food donations will be accepted at each event and the Honors College will take the items to the various food pantries. She attended Auburn University for college and graduated with a B.S. in Animal Science in 1995. Thereafter she took a position with the University of West Alabama’s Wesley Foundation in 1996 and in 1998 she founded the Alabama Rural Ministry (ARM). In 2001 Lisa moved back to the Auburn/Opelika area to base ARM from Lee County. Lisa has been in the Alabama National Guard for 24 years and is currently a Lieutenant Colonial serving as a Battalion Commander in Huntsville, Alabama. Lisa obtained a Masters of Counseling and Psychology at University of West Alabama and she is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in Christian Leadership through Asbury Seminary in Orlando.
