The lecture, “Developing the case for pragmatic interactionism” will be given by Dr. Natalia Ruiz-Junco, from the Department of Sociology, Anthropology & Social work in the College of Liberal Arts, and Dr. Dan Morrison (Vanderbilt University)
This lecture will introduce a theoretical framework—pragmatic interactionism— a sociological perspective with numerous possibilities for empirical application. The authors develop the case for pragmatic interactionism in three steps. First, they discuss
the current context for pragmatist-grounded theorizing in sociology, and address the need for expanding on interactionist literatures with a pragmatist orientation. Next, they discuss recent developments in the reconstruction of G. H. Mead’s social theory.
Finally, they present the main tenets of pragmatic interactionism, distilled out of the unique confluence of the existing literatures.
The SEC grant program has funded this research, and made this public lecture possible.
