Antigone by Jean Anouilh, adapted by Lewis Galanti
Directed by Daydrie Hague September 2017 Jean Anouilh’s 1944 adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone, first performed in Nazi-occupied Paris, gave voice to resistance in the face of authoritarian rule. Antigone’s pursuit to bury her dead brother brings
her into direct conflict
with a new king’s consolidation of power. The conflict between Antigone and Creon raises pertinent questions of authority and defiance and forces audiences to grapple with the very concept of justice. Will you
join the resistance?
