Location: Dudley Gallery

A student exhibition of work from the course Architecture in Watercolor is available for viewing in the Dudley Gallery at Dudley Commons in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction. The exhibit will run through October 18, 2013.

The objective of the Architecture in Watercolor class is to gain an understanding of watercolor as a presentation medium, and to give students the tools and knowledge to utilize watercolor to enhance presentations of their studio work, and as a compliment to the use of the computer as a visualization tool. Beginning with the fundamentals of painting in watercolor, wash technique, color, tonal value, the class applies their efforts to architectural subjects that progress in difficulty and detail. Instructor Iain Stewart believes “as the students enhance their presentations through the use of different visual techniques, they begin to explore and expand the boundaries of their own work.”

Instructor Iain Stewart (BArch ’00), an architectural illustrator who has made a name for himself working for firms throughout the US and Europe for over sixteen years states, “I have seen how watercolor and had created visuals can be combined with computer generated imagery in extremely effective ways. It’s a nod to the past, and a clear understanding of all the tools at ones disposal, that gives the students a greater understanding of the vocabulary of the visual language.” The course is available to School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture students.
