The College of Liberal Arts will host a closing assembly featuring keynote speaker Christine Henseler, beginning at 2 p.m. in Foy 258.
A discussion on "The Humanities in the 21st Century: The Relevance of a Liberal Arts Education" will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Foy Union ballroom. The discussion will feature three young College of Liberal Arts alumni who will talk about their success after pursuing a liberal arts education. The speakers are Jessica Brookshire, ’09 and ’11, founder of K.A.R.M.A; Camper O’Neal, ’04, a senior financial advisor with Merrill Lynch and vice president with Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management in Birmingham; and Jenni Watts, ’09, supervising producer of CNN International Special Projects. Christine Henseler of Union College in New York will be the keynote speaker and is actively engaged in the advocacy of the humanities and the liberal arts.

Dr. Christine Henseler: “Our Shared Humanities”
Chair of Modern Languages and Literatures
Union College, New York
Dr. Christine Henseler is actively engaged in the advocacy of the humanities and the liberal arts. She is
currently working on an online collaborative project titled The Arts and Humanities in the 21st Century
Workplace, a site to provide examples of the value of the arts and humanities in everyday life and work.
She earned a BS in journalism/advertising and a BA and an MA degree in Spanish literature and culture
from the University of Kansas, and a PhD in Hispanic literature from Cornell University.

Jessica Brookshire ’09, ’11
Founder, K.A.R.M.A
Jessica Brookshire graduated from Auburn University in 2009 with a BA in foreign languages/international
trade in Spanish and in 2011 with a Master of Hispanic Studies. She is the founder of K.A.R.M.A Kids
Against Ridicule, Meanness and Aggression, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending bullying in
school-aged children across the nation. Brookshire has spoken to thousands of children in schools across
Alabama and Georgia. She has appeared on Fox News’ The Mike Huckabee Show in New York City and
is a ranked expert panelist on CNN’s HLN Prime News where she has been a guest several times.
Brookshire is currently attending law school, with plans to work in child advocacy.

Camper O’Neal ’04
Senior Financial Advisor, Merrill Lynch
Camper O’Neal graduated from Auburn University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in history. O’Neal
is a Senior Financial Advisor and Vice President with Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management in
Birmingham, AL. He holds the designations of CRPC (Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor) and
CRPS (Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist). His practice focuses on investment management for wealthy
families and individuals, foundations and endowments, and corporate retirement plans.

Jenni Watts ’99
Supervising Producer, CNN International
Special Projects
Jenni Watts graduated from Auburn University in 1999 with a BA in philosophy. Watts started with CNN
International Special Projects in 2002 as a writer and has risen through the ranks within the department
winning multiple awards for her programs. She oversees three weekly Africa feature programs: African
Voices, Inside Africa and Marketplace Africa. In addition, she produces high profile special programming
including Expedition: Sumatra hosted by Philippe Cousteau. Watts is also a highly requested live field
producer for major breaking news.
